Arlen 'Minor Tenor' Asymmetric Ukulele
Slightly smaller than a standard Tenor, but with a standard 17" scale length, this all-solid, top-of-the-range instrument is made from the highest-grade figured Hawaiian Koa, with a Spanish Cedar neck, African Ebony fingerboard and appointments of Macassar Ebony and abalone. The inlays are hand-cut from reclaimed raw shell and finely polished; the binding is flamed English Holly, with Ebony/Pear/Ebony purflings. All my small-body instruments are made to my own 'asymmetric' body and bracing designs, which reduce unhelpful standing waves inside the box and produce an entirely musical, open and resonant sound, whilst the 12 frets-to-the-body design places the bridge in the 'sweet spot' for smaller bodies . This model is braced with German Spruce and reverse-kerfed with hand-sawn Spanish Cedar. Gotoh gold-plated planetary 1:4 tuners with amber buttons, Aquila Sugar strings and a player's sound port perfect the playing experience. French polish finish; supplied with a quality hard case (pickup options available). Price : £1,599 (sold)
(The customer specified the tone woods, 'shell' theme of the inlays and sound port, along with the owner's initials on the headstock in abalone).
